EDC stands for “Everyday Carry.” It refers to the items that people consistently carry with them on a daily basis to assist in various situations. These items often include practical tools, accessories, or gadgets that individuals find useful for their routine or for unexpected needs that might arise.
The specific items in an EDC kit can vary greatly depending on personal preferences, occupation, and lifestyle. Common EDC items might include a wallet, keys, multitool, flashlight, pocketknife, phone, pen, notebook, and more. Some individuals might include specialized gear like a compact first-aid kit, a portable charger, or a small survival kit.
The reasons for carrying an EDC vary from person to person, but generally, people do it for preparedness, convenience, and personal comfort. Having essential tools and items readily available can help individuals handle everyday tasks, unexpected situations, or emergencies more effectively. It’s also a way to ensure you have what you need without relying on external resources.
Ultimately, an EDC is about being ready for the small challenges that pop up daily and being prepared for the unexpected, providing a sense of confidence and self-reliance in different situations.
Here is my EDC Gear. I am not promoting the excesive consumerism, so, make your own decision if any of the items is needed in your pockets or backpack.
- My go to smartphone is Iphone 14 – after using Iphone 8 for many years, I changed it in the early of 2023, due to the cost of maintenance – replacing components was too expensive, more than the actual cost of a used one. I am into Apple Ecosystem, so the use of it is mandatory for me. I use a original black Apple leathercase, I preffer the time patina and the rugeness and protection offered. Also I love the simplicity of design. I never leave the house without it.
- Magsafe Apple Battery – it is always in my backpack altough i rarely use it. It is just a backup, my iphone 14 battery last more than I need for just one day. I have to use it only if I film on 4k for a long time with the smartphone. As I said, it’s a backup and my mind is set on my way or my photo job I have to do, instead of the fear of finding an outlet just in case. It is fast charging, safe and small. Unfortnately, Apple decided to stop the mass production, maybe facing the fake products on the market, or the replacements from another brands.
- Otool 2 is a keychain tool for key rings for carrying keys and daily items, made of titan. Small and lightweight, keeps my keys safe on my belt. Also nice to have for tripod plates. If you are a photographer, you know what I mean.
- 5.11 Braddock DP Mini Knife – I love the design and the clip, and also the utility. I use it not so often, to unbox items, cut some tags and wires (not in the tactical way) and ocasionally for slicing some apples on the go.
- – slim magnetic wallet, easily attached to my smartphone and use it as a desk stand if necessary, convenient to use when filming or remote photographing. I keep there some cards, ID and driver cards and small amount of cash. Small and easy to carry in any situation. I also have a wallet like this made of leather, but this one is premium – I’m fan of the brand and also use another photography related pieces.
- This is the key of my 4×4 SUV. Nothing fancy, missing long distance command, automati trunk pop-up and so. Small form factor.
- Olight Baton 3 led flashlamp with charging case – small and lightweight, powerfull enough on second power step to light a portrait or work something in pitch black. Battery lasts enough and it has an magnetic end to attach on metal surfaces if needed. I do not carry the charging case in my pockets.
- Nitecore NTP31 Aluminum Alloy Tactical Bolt Action Pen – black pen with tactical use, a hard tungsten end for self-defence or emergency/glassbreaking use. I love the way it paints the paper, on black.
- Apple Airpods Pro 2 – wireless headphones for calls, music and even for video editing purposes. Very good noise cancellation and the sound quality is properly for the size. It makes my life easier, no joking.
- Apple Watch Series 8 – useful for my daily exercise monitoring and also to send text messages by voice
I hope my EDC gear will inspire some of you. There are a lot of replacing items accordingly to your use or budget, but a system like this can help you anytime.
